About Me

My name is Martin Melmuk. I am a software developer from Vienna working mostly with PHP and Linux systems.

I started programming in the early 2000s and completed my apprenticeship as an IT specialist in 2010. From 2017 to 2023 I worked as a software developer and consultant. My work ranged from application development and system maintenance to CRM/data migrations, project specifications, support and user training.

This site collects some of the projects, experiments and ideas I worked on over the years.

Core Skills

Areas I spend most of my time building with.

Backend engineering workspace

PHP and Backend Systems

Writing PHP since the early 2000s.

I have been building PHP applications since 2002. Much of my professional work centered around SugarCRM. I developed custom modules and extensions that supported client business processes such as invoicing, time tracking, production planning, and integrations with other systems. The core of the work involved translating how a company actually operates into software workflows.

Frontend and Hybrid Apps

Used in dashboards, tools, and mobile wrappers.

I spend a lot of time building user interfaces for internal tools, dashboards, and hybrid mobile apps.

My interest in frontend development grew out of practical needs: Eventually you will need buttons and screens so people can use it. I came to JavaScript somewhat reluctantly but over time the tooling improved, browsers became more standardized, and I found myself enjoying frontendwork.

Adjacent Technologies

Tools and technologies that support my main work.

Terminal and build tooling

Linux and Tooling

The environment most of my work runs in.

I work primarily on Linux systems and rely heavily on command line tools.

Over the years I built many small scripts and utilities for deployment, ETL tasks, and system monitoring. Simple tooling keeps systems understandable and easy to operate.

ML and Computer Vision Experiments

Practical experiments with machine learning.

Occasionally I explore machine learning and OCR related ideas.

These experiments usually start from practical questions: filtering spam, extracting data from documents, or automating repetitive tasks.

I enjoy experimenting with these technologies and integrating them into software projects.
